Dear Viewer - Reader!
 
This is a time for beauty and peace in your heart, since the graphic artist showing his works below would never use the nowadays so trendy incomprehensible gloom over his art. All the drawings by András Simon are addressed to the audience in a positively direct way to enchant them and to make them think further. Anyone, who can express whole lives, tragedies and spiritual developments using no more than a few ink lines on a piece of paper is a real artist, whereas András Simon is a truly gifted man as well.

His graphic designs make up two groups, both of which a few representatives are included on this disc. His symbolic, somewhat surrealistic works rich in details and delicate graphic expression uphold a mirror reflecting our world in a rather sarcastic way. These pictures make us realise that we are not any better than others as we keep rushing for the ever-praised mammon of this world. But as we recognise our own flaws and are able to laugh at them, we can also ensure ourselves that we still have the ancient human need and ability to love.

To the second group belong the so-called one-line-designs, which he started to draw a few years ago under a deep spiritual inspiration. As a writer would collect some memorable thoughts or sentences, so did András Simon with his visual notes executing them in pure black-and-white, and lately in splendid colourful versions, too. His figures of strong lines are floating in mid-air delivering secrets, wisdom and symbols to the viewer. It is like saying only a few, powerful and appropriate words instead of chattering about for hours. All his drawings reflect deep humanity and faith. A few lines reveal thoughts and emotions of which we did not know we had hidden in our souls. We do wish that you find them as enjoyable as we did.

Biography
Born on 4 February 1958 in Budapest. Art studies: 1972-1976 at the Graphic Section of the Secondary school of Fine and Applied Arts. From 1977 to 1979 he worked as an illustrator at the Graphic Department of the Text-book Publishing Company, then in the subsequent two years he was commissioned to illustrate several language books for the Publishing Company. He has been a free-lance graphic artist since 1986.
He is a member of the Association of Hungarian Creative Artists and of the Artists’ Association called Pál Molnár-C. Circle of Friends. The latter awarded him with the Prize of the Public in 1990.

He takes himself mainly for a graphic artist, but he also enjoys working in watercolour and pastel. Since 1995 he has been expressing his through the literature as well. His first book “Close to Love” (published by Szegletko, 1995) became a real success among the readers preferring literature touching the soul and mind. His latest book about the “Eight Joys” appeared in the church bookshops in November 2000.
